New walk-in medical facility in Auburn, Mass. provides efficient, comfortable patient experience

BOSTON – July 15, 2013 – Margulies Perruzzi Architects (MPA), one of Boston’s most innovative architectural and interior design firms, today announced the opening of ReadyMED, a new walk-in medical facility of Reliant Medical Group, a multi-specialty medical group. Located on Rt. 12 in Auburn, Mass., ReadyMED is Reliant’s second walk-in medical care clinic in central Massachusetts to offer convenient, non-emergency medical services for adults, infants and children. Cutler Associates, an integrated design and construction management firm based in Worcester, Mass., built the facility, which opened to the public on June 21.

Reliant Medical Group, an affiliate of Atrius Health, is an independent group of physicians with more than 250 doctors and 1,700 employees located at more than 20 practice sites throughout central Massachusetts. Utilizing approximately 6,000 SF of a former retail building, the interior of the space was demolished to shell condition and reconstructed for the practice’s specific needs. The new ReadyMED facility features a reception area with self-service check-in kiosks, six exam and treatment rooms, a procedure room, a laboratory and a radiology room, all of which will allow the staff to handle minor illnesses and injuries ranging from the flu and earaches to fractures and sprains. Doctors, advanced practitioners and medical staff are available seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. Reliant and MPA utilized the LEAN design process to design a welcoming, efficient clinic that optimizes the available space, improves operational flow, and provides a positive patient experience.

“ReadyMED is a great example of how Reliant Medical Group is committed to delivering healthcare that’s most convenient for the way people live today,” said John Duggan, vice president of real estate at Reliant Medical Group. “Given our successful track-record with the MPA and Cutler team, we knew that they could provide the expertise in Lean clinical design and construction to create a pleasurable and efficient environment for our patients.”

Focused on patient convenience, the design concept for the ReadyMED clinic aims to demystify the relationship between the patient and the healthcare provider. This is achieved using transparency throughout the space to create a comfortable, attractive environment, while also maintaining patient privacy. Separate waiting rooms are provided for children and adults, and patients have access to wireless Internet in the waiting areas. The interior finishes were chosen to give the space a “living room” quality.

Together, MPA and Cutler previously designed and constructed Reliant’s first ReadyMED clinic in Shrewsbury, Mass. in 2009. Most recently, MPA and Cutler completed for Reliant a 17,000 SF internal medicine, OB, pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, and eye-care medical office building in Holden, Mass.
