HLM is a venture capital firm that specializes in medical technology businesses. MPA was hired to help HLM find new space or decide to stay in their existing offices and renovate.
After several test fits in buildings around Boston, HLM decided to stay in their existing location and renovate the 7,000 s.f. space. Their existing neo-classical offices did not reflect the image that the partners wanted to present to their clients and investors.
The current leased space wrapped around the building’s core, which caused staff in the remote ends of the space to feel isolated from the central part of the office. In response, the new design created an open layout that uses abundant glass. Curved surfaces at transition points and a strongly-colored, curved soffit that runs from one remote end of the office to the other succeeded in tying the space together aesthetically.
Marble tile was laid in the reception and waiting areas to help define those areas as public space differentiating them from the rest of the office.
